ABOUT KYRENIA

 

Leaning on the northern slope of the Five Finger Mountains, Kyrenia is a charming and beautiful city with a view of the mountains and the sea. Kyrenia Castle

Kyrenia Castle is a fortress built by the Byzantines in the 7th century to protect the city against Arab-Islamic invasions. You can see traces of Byzantine, Lusignans, Venetian, Ottoman and British civilizations at the same time. The Kyrenia castle, which has been home to many civilizations, has many different architectural works that will attract local and foreign visitors.

 

Kyrenia Marina

Since the opening of the Kyrenia Tourism Port on November 16, 1987, the yachts have been completely left to use. In addition to the yachts, there are other recreational boats and harbor fishermen from the harbor. With its current status, it is possible to shelter around 100 boats. Although all the boats' needs cannot be met in the harbor, electricity, water, bathroom, toilet, laundry facilities are available. The port occupies an important place in its location due to its intertwined history.

 

Bellapais Monastery

Bellapais Monastery is a historical monastery located in the village of Beylerbeyi in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It was built on the foundations built in the Roman period in the 12th century and is one of the eastern examples of gothic architecture. The first building was built between 1198 and 1205 in the monastery which carries the Gothic art in architecture. The most solid structure of the monastery that has survived until today is the church. The monastery, which can be seen from almost all parts of Kyrenia, attracts the attention of tourists. The monastery hosts classical music concerts and various music festivals from time to time.

 

St. Hilarion Castle

Saint Hilarion Castle, Saint Hilaryon Castle, St. Hilarion Castle (St. Hilarion), is the westernmost of the three castles built on the Beşparmak Mountains. Although there is no precise information on the date of construction, the name of the castle is first encountered in the records of the 1191s. St. Visiting hours of Hilarion Castle are between 09.00-16.30 in summer and 09.00-16.00 in winter.

 

Shipwreck Museum

The shipwreck was first discovered in 1965 by a sponge hunter at a depth of three meters. It was discovered by researchers from the University of Pennsylvania between 1968 and 1969. The museum, which is located in Kyrenia Castle, started to be exhibited on March 3, 1976, and it astonishes those who see it. There are about 400 wine amphoras, 9000 almonds and 29 millstones. 4 spoons, 4 salt shaker, 4 drink glass was screaming that there were 4 people. While visiting Kyrenia Castle, one of the sections where Lusian combatants are located, fascinates those who see the oldest shipwreck in the world. Shipwreck museum is visited by many local and foreign tourists during the year.

 

Bufevanto Castle

Bufavento castle, one of the three castles in Cyprus, is located at the foot of Kyrenia mountain. It is 950 meters above sea level. The exact date of construction is unknown. Access to the castle is quite difficult. Access to the castle is provided by stairs. Stairs can even take a clock from time to time.
